Nolan Schaefer's a quality goaltender who has played well in spot NHL duty but he won't be knocking starter Marc-Andre Fleury off perch any time soon. Expect Schaefer to report to the minors and challenge for a backup role next season.

Schaefer became expendable once the Sharks decided against dealing Evgeni Nabokov or Vesa Toskala. The club's number three goaltender now becomes unheralded minor-leaguer Dimitri Patzold.
