SHELLEY TO BROADWAY

The New York Rangers acquired left winger Jody Shelley from the San Jose Sharks for a sixth-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the New York Rangers
The Rangers are apparently done with expensive veteran enforcer Donald Brashear, who recently cleared waivers. Shelley will add more toughness to the Blueshirts, and should team up with Brandon Prust on as fourth-line pugilists. Shelley may also make Aaron Voros expendable.

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
The Sharks will get a sixth rounder in 2011 if Shelley doesn't re-sign with the Rangers, and the sixth will turn into a fifth rounder in '11 if Shelley re-signs with them. Either way, the Sharks save a little cap space with this deal. However, they are now sans enforcer.
