SYDOR TO DALLAS

The Dallas Stars acquired defenseman Darryl Sydor from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a fourth-round draft pick in 2008.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
Sydor is familiar with the Stars, since he toiled in Dallas from 1995-96 through 2002-03. He'll add leadership and some of the veteran savvy lost when Willie Mitchell signed as a free agent with Vancouver. However, Sydor is not as physical as Mitchell and, although better offensively, has regressed in terms of point production recently.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning needed to alleviate a little more salary to help with their budget problems, so Sydor was deemed expendable. By the time the Bolts make the fourth-round selection in June, 2008 that came in this deal, Sydor may be out of the NHL altogether. Under the circumstances, this was the only move Tampa Bay GM Jay Feaster could make at this time.
