PANTHERS ACQUIRE EMINGER

The Florida Panthers acquired defenseman Steve Eminger from the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Noah Welch and a third-round draft pick in 2009.

What does it give the Florida Panthers
The Panthers' only right-shooting defenseman (Nick Boynton) was recently sent home for disciplinary reasons, so adding Eminger makes sense at this time. Also, the Cats decided against dealing Jay Bouwmeester at this time, but Eminger is decent insurance in case Bouwmeester leaves after July 1.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
Welch doesn't have Eminger's offensive upside and has battled injuries for quite some time but can become a solid blueliner with regular playing time in Tampa Bay. The third rounder is pretty solid value for a young defender who has yet to fully make his mark in the NHL.
