MESZAROS TO PHILADELPHIA

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Andrej Mezaros from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a second-round draft pick in 2012.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers flirted with Dan Hamhuis earlier, but when he wouldn't sign, GM Paul Holmgren decided to switch gears. Enter Meszaros, who was quite a disappointment in Tampa Bay. He adds great depth to the Flyers blue-line, though this move could mean another trade looms--involving either Braydon Coburn or Matt Carle.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning could be players now for one of the big UFA defensemen on the market, but this move is probably designed more for future re-signings--namely Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos. The Bolts will need a defenseman to replace Meszaros, but he'll likely be a lot cheaper than the Slovakian.
