DUCKS, BOLTS SWAP GOALIES

The Anaheim Ducks acquired goaltender Dan Ellis from the Tampa Bay Lightning for goaltender Curtis McElhinney.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks are quite worried about Jonas Hiller's status right now, which is why they have added Ellis to the recent Ray Emery acquisition. Hiller has vertigo, and may not be able to return to action anytime soon. Therefore, Anaheim did well to upgrade the crease position, since Ellis has far more experience as a starter than McElhinney.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
The Bolts will run with veteran Dwayne Roloson down the stretch, so Ellis was expendable. McElhinney is merely a depth netminder, so there's a good chance he'll wind up back in the AHL. The Lightning could recall Mike Smith from the minors to serve as Roloson's backup now. Tampa Bay also has prospect Cedrick Desjardins waiting in the wings, so Ellis was no longer needed.
