BELAK TO FLORIDA
The Florida Panthers acquired right winger/defenseman Wade Belak from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a fifth-round draft pick in 2008.
What does it give the Florida Panthers
A dependable enforcer and occasional agitator who can also chip in the odd
goal. Belak is a character guy who is good in the dressing room, and will do
what it takes to stand up for his teammates. The Panthers are one of the
softer teams in the NHL, so can use his kind of leadership and toughness in
their outside shot at a playoff berth.
What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
A draft pick that will likely land a player more talented than Belak, and a
way to shed a bit of payroll. Belak doesn't make a king's ransom, but he
isn't a part of the Leafs' new plans and the draft pick may land a more
useful player.
