The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired defenseman Hal Gill from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a second-round draft pick in 2008 and a fifth-round draft pick in 2009.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
Gill is a simply massive (and sometimes edgy) bodyguard who can clear the
front of the net and be a responsible plus-minus contributor. Gill has also
shown some surprising offensive instincts in the past couple of seasons,
chipping in with the odd assist.
What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
Obviously this deal is all about building for the future in T-O. Gill was a solid contributor but at age 32 and with a not-small contract, he was very movable.
