MOORE TO BUFFALO
The Buffalo Sabres acquired center Dominic Moore from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a second-round draft pick in 2009.
What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
Moore is in his prime at 28 and enjoying a breakout campaign, so he is a nice addition for Buffalo's playoff push. With his very affordable contract expiring after this season he is a very solid rental for the Sabres, who have struggled lately and are on the playoff bubble. The 2nd-rounder is a bit of a heavy price to play for a player who may leave in a few months, but the underachieving Sabres only have only three players right now with more points this season than Moore's 41.
What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
Moore's previous career high in points before this season was 18 (back in 2005-06 with the Rangers), so the 2nd-rounder is a great return for a player who Toronto wasn't expecting to be a major contributor this season. It's also fairly clear he wasn't in their plans going forward as GM Brian Burke rebuilds a team based on size and power.
