FLAMES GET JONES FOR MIKKELSON
The Calgary Flames acquired forward Blair Jones from the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Brendan Mikkelson.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
Jones hasn't been able to play regularly during his time with Tampa Bay, but he did show flashes of potential during his time with the Bolts. The 25-year-old could get a better opportunity in Calgary, who need help up front. Jones can play any forward position but might be used at his natural C position right away. The Flames don't have a right-handed C (David Moss is injured), so Jones could prove to be a valuable addition.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning have defensive issues this season. Big ones. Their top two defenders (arguably) are currently on the sidelines due to injury (Swedes Mattias Ohlund and Victor Hedman), while projected No. 1 goalie Dwayne Roloson is showing his age (42). Enter Mikkelson, who had been playing in the AHL this season. Tampa Bay will need more than this to make a playoff push but at least it's a start.
