BRUINS-CAPS SWAP AGAIN
The Boston Bruins acquired center Michael Nylander from the Washington Capitals for a second-round draft pick in 2006 and future considerations.
What does it give the Boston Bruins
The Bruins finally solved their need for a second-line center to play behind Joe Thornton. However, Nylander comes with some risk, since he's only appeared in three games this season because of a broken leg. On the plus side, he knows fellow newcomer Sergei Gonchar well and should add another element to the Bruins power play. This move is yet another sign that Boston is serious about going deep into the postseason this time around.
What does it give the Washington Capitals
While the Caps will have to wait a while before receiving a return for Nylander, it should prove to be well worth the wait. In exchange for the 31-year-old Nylander--a soon-to-be unrestricted free agent--Washington receives another second-round pick to bank down the road. As for the future considerations, it probably disappears if Nylander signs elsewhere this summer.
