Heward is merely a warm body for the Kings, as they finish a disastrous campaign. There's a chance that he will re-sign with L.A. in the off-season to provide a little insurance. Either way, this move will have little impact on the franchise.
What does it give the Washington Capitals
Moving Heward now should give Capitals coach the luxury of auditioning younger blueliners for 2006-07. Depending on whether or not Heward stays with the Kings, the Caps may not give up much--if anything--in this deal. The Caps had nothing to lose in making this trade, so they made a smart move here.
