SILLINGER FOR JOHNSON

The St. Louis Blues acquired center Mike Sillinger from the Phoenix Coyotes for goaltender Brent Johnson.

What does it give the St. Louis Blues
It may be too late to save the Blues' sinking ship but Sillinger should help the club down the stretch. He hadn't been playing the pivot position in Phoenix but could slide into the third-line center role in St. Louis. Johnson had to go but the Blues still haven't solved their long-term goaltending issues.

What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
It's curious as to why the 'Yotes felt they needed another netminder. While the team did deal Sean Burke recently, Phoenix still has Brian Boucher, Zac Bierk, Jean-Marc Pelletier and super prospect David LeNeveu in the system. All Johnson does is clog up matters some more. Another deal is probably forthcoming--either before March 9 or in the off-season.
