LANGKOW TO CALGARY

The Calgary Flames acquired center Daymond Langkow from the Phoenix Coyotes for defenseman Denis Gauthier and winger Oleg Saprykin.

What does it give the Calgary Flames
With Craig Conroy now in Los Angeles, the Flames needed a playmaking center to set up franchise player Jarome Iginla. Langkow should be the perfect fit in Calgary, since he is a WHL grad with good speed, excellent hockey sense and the grit Flames coach/GM Darryl Sutter always looks for in a player. Langkow should make an impact in Calgary.

What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
Langkow was deemed expendable, following the signing of Petr Nedved. So, the Coyotes did well to acquire the rugged Gauthier and skilled Saprykin for added depth and size to their roster. Gauthier should be a busy player on the penalty kill in the Desert, while Saprykin's untapped offensive potential may finally be unleashed in a Coyotes uniform.
