NEDVED FOR SEIDENBERG
The Philadelphia Flyers acquired center Petr Nedved and future considerations from the Phoenix Coyotes for defenseman Dennis Seidenberg.
What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
In addition to Nedved, the Flyers also added the right to flip-flop fourth-round draft picks in 2006 and third-round draft picks in 2007 with the Coyotes. That said, Nedved is still the key piece in this trade, mainly because it give Philly even more depth at center. It is also a clear indicator that the Flyers fear that captain Keith Primeau's career may be over, since Nedved still has salary scheduled to be earned beyond 2005-06. Nedved may help the Flyers, especially on the power play, but has looked awful so far this year.
What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
In Seidenberg, the Coyotes add another solid young blueliner to the fold. More importantly, the club shed over $2 million from their 2006-07 salary cap by moving Nedved--who had been a frequent healthy scratch recently. Seidenberg should help a blueline currently missing the injured Derek Morris. He may see power-play time in Phoenix, something that rarely occurred when the Flyers were completely healthy.
