FLAMES, 'YOTES SWAP FOUR

The Calgary Flames acquired winger Mike Leclerc and goaltender Brian Boucher from the Phoenix Coyotes for forward Steven Reinprecht and goaltender Philippe Sauve.

What does it give the Calgary Flames
In Leclerc, the Flames add more of a Darryl Sutter type winger than the departing Reinprecht. He'll likely assume a top-six role at left wing in Calgary, and could be regular linemate for franchise player Jarome Iginla. Boucher gives the Flames a more experienced backup goaltender to Miikka Kiprusoff, who is still battling a hip problem.

What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
Reinprecht could flourish in Phoenix under coach Wayne Gretzky, and he'll likely be given a ton of ice time immediately. Sauve's days were numbered in Calgary, but he may not fare much better in the Desert--since the Coyotes are extremely high on top prospect David LeNeveu. This is likely to be the first of a series of moves by Phoenix GM Mike Barnett prior to the March 9 trade deadline.
