JOHNSON TO MONTREAL

The Montreal Canadiens acquired right wing Mike Johnson from the Phoenix Coyotes for a fourth-round draft pick in 2007.

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
Johnson will essentially replace Richard Zednik as the third-line right-winger in Montreal--behind Alex Kovalev and Michael Ryder. He'll add a little bit of everything to the Habs lineup, but is not a physical player by any stretch of the imagination. He turns 32 in October, so what you see is what you get with Johnson.

What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
By dealing Johnson, the Coyotes may be preparing the table for a future acquisition. Or, they could be clearing a roster spot in case Russian prospect Enver Lisin is ready this training camp. Bet on the former, since the Coyotes need more offense. For now, they'll put an extra fourth-round pick in the bank.
