MORRIS TO RANGERS
The New York Rangers acquired defenseman Derek Morris from the Phoenix Coyotes for defenseman Dmitri Kalinin, forwards Nigel Dawes and Petr Prucha.
What does it give the New York Rangers
The Rangers add another potential QB for their power play in Morris, and someone with more grit and toughness than what they currently have. He has a few defensive issues but should inject a little life in the club. He also should benefit from playing in coach John Tortorella's up-tempo system.
What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
The Coyotes add more offense on the wings with the addition of both Dawes and Prucha, while Kalinin is a short-term replacement for Morris. Phoenix received more immediate help for Morris than expected but there is upside in both Dawes and Prucha. Since Morris had to go, this is a good move for Phoenix.
