ISLES GET MONTOYA FOR HELP IN GOAL

The New York Islanders acquired goalie Al Montoya from the Phoenix Coyotes for a sixth-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the New York Islanders
The Islanders have been beset with injuries all season long, including a ridiculous string of bad luck between the pipes. Therefore, reinforcements were needed. Enter Montoya, who just might have finally caught the break he needed to fulfill the potential that made him a top-10 draft pick in 2004. Sending a late-round pick for immediate goalie help isn't a bad idea at all for the Isles at this time.

What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
The Coyotes largely did Montoya a favor by sending him to Long Island, since he was likely never going to overtake Ilya Bryzgalov as the starting goalie in the Desert. Furthermore, it was becoming less certain that he had what it took to unseat Jason LaBarbera for the backup job. Therefore, the club took back a late-round draft pick and did the player in question a solid with this transaction. Matt Climie now becomes the clear-cut third stringer for Phoenix.
