HABS ADD NOKELAINEN
The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Petteri Nokelainen and defenseman Garrett Stafford from the Phoenix Coyotes for forward Brock Trotter and a seventh-round draft pick in 2012.
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
The Habs have struggled mightily in their defensive game this season, so adding the gritty Nokelainen to their fourth line should help a lot--in particular, on face-offs. Stafford is likely to stay in the minors but he's a proven AHL offensive defenseman who gives the team some depth in that area.
What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
Phoenix obviously sees some untapped potential in Trotter, who's still relatively young (24) and scored seven points in his first two AHL contests this season. The 'Yotes also save a little money here by moving an extra contract, and they pick up a late-round selection in the bargain.
