HUTCHINSON TO CAROLINA

The Carolina Hurricanes acquired defenseman Andrew Hutchinson from the Nashville Predators for a third-round draft pick in 2005.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
In Hutchinson, the 'Canes acquire a sound offensive defenseman with decent potential. He'll likely crack the team's top six defense corps and see time on the power play. He's the polar opposite of Mike Commodore, who was also acquired by Carolina for a third-round draft pick in 2005.

What does it give the Nashville Predators
The Predators had no room for Hutchinson, with Ryan Suter and Shea Weber close to joining Kimmo Timonen, Dan Hamhuis and Marek Zidlicky along the blueline. Therefore, they received fair value in the form of a third-round pick (previously acquired from Phoenix). It's also a good move for Nashville because of the fact they had traded their second-round pick last year in the Steve Sullivan trade.
