SABRES MOVE AGAIN: LEHTONEN

The Buffalo Sabres acquired defenseman Mikko Lehtonen from the Nashville Predators for a fourth-round draft pick in 2007.

What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
With the playoff grind in mind, the Sabres pad their blueline depth by grabbing Mikko Lehtonen, a finesse defensemen who honed his game in Finland. He was buried in Nashville's system and doesn't figure to play much unless the Sabres run into more injury trouble on the backend.

What does it give the Nashville Predators
The Preds are stocked with solid, young D-men. They could afford to part with Lehtonen in order to pick up another pick. Short Term Analysis If needed, Lehtonen can step in and provide some skill and mobility on the backend. More likely, it helps circumvent last year's scenario, when injuries on defense contributed to Buffalo missing a trip to the Cup Final by one game. Long Term Analysis Lehtonen isn't the next Kimmo Timmonen. It's up to Nashville to make hay with their pick.
