HORDICHUK TO CAROLINA
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired winger Darcy Hordichuk and a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2010 from the Nashville Predators for a fifth-round draft pick in 2009.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes haven't had a bona fide enforcer for a while, so they'll attempt to get Hordichuk signed before July 1 so that he can fill the role. At this stage of his career, Hordichuk isn't an every-game performer but should be a boost to Carolina's smallish, veteran-laden lineup.
What does it give the Nashville Predators
The Preds weren't going to re-sign Hordichuk, since they have younger players to perform his role, so they'll gladly accept a mid-round pick in next year's draft. They will only give up their fifth rounder in 2010 if the 'Canes fail to sign Hordichuk.
