WALSER TO CAROLINA
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired defenseman Derrick Walser and a fourth-round draft pick in 2006 from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a fourth-round draft pick in 2005.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
Walser will be a depth defenseman for the 'Canes, and will likely start the 2005-06 campaign with the AHL's Lowell Lock Monsters. Adding a fourth-round draft pick next year protects Carolina in case Walser decides to remain in Europe.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
With the fourth-round selection, the Jackets drafted winger Jared Boll, a rugged winger who's headed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2005-06. The Jackets obviously see something in Boll, though they didn't give up much either.
