SANDERSON TO PHOENIX

The Phoenix Coyotes acquired left wing Geoff Sanderson and winger Tim Jackman from the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenseman Cale Hulse, center Michael Rupp and left wing Jason Chimera.

What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
It was clear in the early going that the Coyotes lacked scoring in this "new" NHL, so adding Sanderson should help. Jackman, at this stage of his career, is still a project. However, the trade allows Phoenix to clear up some of their roster clutter--while still hoping that the 33-year-old Sanderson can rediscover his past scoring touch.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
The Jackets needed more help along the blueline, so adding Hulse should help out. Chimera and Rupp will probably serve specific roles with Columbus, who will now be able to give young wingers such as Nikolai Zherdev and Dan Fritsche more ice time.
