SHELLEY TO SAN JOSE

The San Jose Sharks acquired winger Jody Shelley from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a sixth-round draft pick in 2009.

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
The Sharks have had trouble keeping their tough guys healthy, as Brad Norton, Rob Davison and Ryane Clowe have all spent considerable time on IR this season. Shelley isn't much of a player but he is among the best policemen in the NHL and should help the young Sharks.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
The Jackets are plenty tough these days, so they could afford to deal their popular enforcer away. Rookie Jared Boll has done a lot of fighting this season, which likely made Shelley expendable. Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson also got good value for Shelley in the form of a late-round pick in what is expected to be a great draft.
