FEDOROV TO WASHINGTON
The Washington Capitals acquired center Sergei Fedorov from the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenseman Ted Ruth.
What does it give the Washington Capitals
In Fedorov the Caps land a savvy veteran who brings a quiet leadership plus
versatility and the ability to help out in several situations. He can boost
their power play and fill in on the top two lines, while helping mentor
young superstar Alex Ovechkin (as the rising scoring king takes the next
step and the team looks to make a nice playoff run). But above all, Fedorov
helps take the pressure off Ovechkin in the leadership and depth
departments.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
Ruth is a talented rearguard prospect who was a second-round pick in last
year's draft. He is currently toiling with Notre Dame in US college hockey,
but has the goods to be an above-average all-round NHL defenseman a few
years from now.
