BRULE FOR TORRES

The Edmonton Oilers acquired forward Gilbert Brule from the Columbus Blue Jackets for winger Raffi Torres.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
The 21-year-old Brule has struggled in his first two NHL campaigns, but he remains a scoring prospect with a high upside. The Edmonton native should feel right at home, literally, with the youthful Oilers and he could become a part of the team's nucleus up front. Brule can play all three forward positions, which should help him fit into the lineup.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
The 26-year-old Torres missed most of last season because of a serious knee injury, but was completely healthy the previous two years. Jackets GM Scott Howson is familiar with Torres from his days as Edmonton's assistant GM, so he obviously wanted him in Columbus. That said, he doesn't offer as much offensive upside as Brule, which is bad news for a Jackets squad starving for more offense. Torres may become a top-six winger in Columbus.
