PICARD FOR KOLARIK

The Phoenix Coyotes acquired winger Alexandre Picard from the Columbus Blue Jackets for forward Chad Kolarik.

What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
Picard is a longtime underachiever but he showed enough talent to be selected No. 8 overall in the 2004 NHL Draft. That suggests he may still pan out eventually, although he's currently in the minors. The Coyotes lost some young forward prospects earlier in the day by moving Peter Mueller and Kevin Porter, so Picard helps them re-stock their youth somewhat.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
By moving Picard they rid themselves of a player who never quite developed the way they were hoping. Kolarik has proven he can score at both the college and AHL levels, so he may be more NHL-ready as a scoring prospect than Picard--something the Blue Jackets may need him to show soon, since they moved Raffi Torres earlier in the day.
