GUENIN FOR T. SMITH
The Anaheim Ducks acquired defenseman Nate Guenin from the Columbus Blue Jackets for forward Trevor Smith.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
Guenin is a solid AHL defenseman who provides depth and plenty of size to any NHL organization. He plays the game honestly, and with grit. He's a solid replacement for the recently traded Brett Festerling. Guenin isn't likely to see much NHL time this year, however, barring a slew of Ducks injuries.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
Smith is a scorer in the minor leagues, but he's mainly a depth forward at the highest level. That said, he is only 25 and does have enough size to potentially emerge as a late bloomer at the highest level. For now, he'll move to the AHL's Springfield Falcons from the Syracuse Crunch.
