ARIZONA SENDS SCOTT WEDGEWOOD TO DALLAS

The Dallas Stars acquired goaltender Scott Wedgewood from the Arizona Coyotes for a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2023.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
The Stars have gone from the best goaltending depth in the league to needing help before the deadline. Ben Bishop retired, Anton Khudobin is done for the rest of the season (hip surgery) and Braden Holtby is currently sidelined by injury as well, so Wedgewood should be a reliable backup for Jake Oettinger down the stretch.

What does it give the Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes did well from an asset management standpoint, since Wedgewood was acquired via waivers earlier this season. They turned him into a fourth-rounder in '23 that could become a third-rounder in '23 if the Stars qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs this spring. Karel Vejmelka should take over No. 1 duties in goal.

Fantasy impact
Wedgewood's stock has fallen drastically after this trade, since he will likely play very few games down the stretch for Dallas. Vejmelka's stock gets a boost.
