KASSIAN TO THE COYOTES
The Arizona Coyotes acquired winger Zack Kassian, a first-round draft pick in 2022 (No. 29 overall), a third-round draft pick in 2024 and a second-round draft pick in 2025 from the Edmonton Oilers for a first-round draft pick in 2022 (No. 32 overall).
What does it give the Arizona Coyotes
This deal added future assets and moved the Coyotes up three spots in the first round of this year's draft, simply because Arizona agreed to take on Kassian's contract ($3.2 million cap hit for two more seasons). The latter should play regularly in Arizona and provide grit and toughness. The 'Yotes selected towering QMJHL defenseman Maveric Lamoureux at pick No. 29.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
After seeing Toronto dump the salary of Petr Mrazek to Chicago, the Oilers decided to make a similar move here. However, it did cost GM Ken Holland more to send Kassian to Arizona. It is expected that both Edmonton and Toronto will be competing for the same goaltenders on the market next week. The Oil took rugged winger Reid Schaefer with the No. 32 overall selection.
Fantasy impact
Kassian's fantasy value, whatever little he had in Edmonton, is now gone. As a member of the Coyotes, he can be safely ignored in virtually all formats.
