KOSTIN FOR SAMORUKOV
The Edmonton Oilers acquired winger Klim Kostin from the St. Louis Blues for defenseman Dmitri Samorukov.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
Both Kostin and Samorukov were in need of a change of scenery for career enhancement. Both players cleared waivers before the deal, so the Oilers can start Kostin out in the American Hockey League. That said, the Russian winger is likely to see some NHL action at some point in 2022-23.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues
For the Blues, adding Samorukov makes a ton of sense at this time. St. Louis have lost both Scott Perunovich and Marco Scandella to long-term injuries, so more depth was required. Like Kostin, expect Samorukov to see NHL action this season. He is a pretty decent blueline prospect.
Fantasy impact
Kostin could have some sleeper appeal if he manages to become a top-six forward in Edmonton. However, that is more for keeper-league projections than year-to-year formats. Samorukov has little in the way of fantasy value at this time.
