BEAR, PEDERSON PICKED UP BY VANCOUVER

The Vancouver Canucks acquired defenseman Ethan Bear and forward Lane Pederson from the Carolina Hurricanes for a fifth-round draft pick in 2023.

What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks are currently in desperation mode, since they sit near the very bottom of the NHL standings. Bear should help provide some defensive depth, as Vancouver currently has injury issues on the back end. Pederson is more of an organizational depth forward for the team's AHL affiliate in Abbotsford.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes have plenty of depth at all positions at present time (though obviously things can change quickly in professional sports). Therefore, they moved two spare parts in exchange for a fifth-round pick in next year's draft. Bear had not dressed for any games so far in 2022-23, so a change of scenery was definitely in order.

Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact here, as Bear will play a depth role on defense in Vancouver. Pederson should remain in the AHL until further notice.
