HURME TO ANAHEIM
The Anaheim Ducks acquired goaltender Jani Hurme from the Atlanta Thrashers for forward Joel Stepp.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks didn't have quality depth behind J-S Giguere and Ilya Bryzgalov, so Hurme is a nice addition to the organization. However, his arrival could lead to another deal involving Giguere--with Bryzgalov taking over the starter role and Hurme becoming his backup.
What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
The Thrashers no longer use for Hurme, with Kari Lehtonen, Steve Shields, Michael Garnett and Adam Berkhoel down on the farm--plus Ondrej Pavelec in the system. However, Stepp will merely fill out the roster in either Chicago (AHL) or Gwinnett (ECHL).
