STEFAN TO DALLAS
The Dallas Stars acquired center Patrik Stefan and defenseman Jaroslav Modry from the Atlanta Thrashers for center Niko Kapanen and a seventh-round draft pick in 2006.
What does it give the Dallas Stars
A center with some offensive talent, but with some issues on the injury front in Stefan. They also picked up, in Modry, a steady rearguard with some offensive flair. They already have decent depth on the point, so the deal was likely done as insurance (Stefan) in case they lose Jason Arnott to free agency.
What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
A centerman who brings a bit of everything to club, and is best suited on the third line. The Thrashers can stop trying to fit Stefan into the second-line center role and focus on finding someone who truly belongs there.
