TKACHUK BACK TO ST. LOUIS

The St. Louis Blues acquired forward Keith Tkachuk and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2008 from the Atlanta Thrashers for a conditional first-round draft pick in 2008.

What does it give the St. Louis Blues
In a complex sequel to the deal that originally sent Tkachuk to Atlanta at the deadline, the Blues have re-acquired his negotiating rights with the hope of re-signing the veteran before July 1. This move was made to cover up in case the Blues aren't successful in convincing Tkachuk to return to the 'Show Me State'. He's expected to re-sign with St. Louis.

What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
The Thrashers never had any intention of re-signing Tkachuk as long as it would have cost them a second first-round draft pick. Therefore, they may now get back into the mix to re-sign him--since it would only cost an additional fourth-round draft pick in 2008. The deal will get even more complicated if a third club is successful in signing Tkachuk after July 1. Welcome to the new NHL!
