What does it give the Washington Capitals
Giroux was already a member of the Capitals organization, so there is familiarity here. He'll probably remain in the AHL for the foreseeable future.

What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
Motzko played with the Caps earlier in the season, so he may get a chance at some ice time with the Thrashers before season's end. He's a reserve forward that is mainly a depth acquisition.
