MINNESOTA GOES FOR GUSTAV NYQUIST
The Minnesota Wild acquired winger Gustav Nyquist from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a fifth-round draft pick in 2023.
What does it give the Minnesota Wild
This one is interesting, since Nyquist is not expected back until the Stanley Cup playoffs due to injury. Exactly when he will play for Minnesota remains to be seen. He is an unrestricted free agent at season's end, though he might have some interest in staying with the Wild.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
This trade was a no-brainer for Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen, since he was able to acquire a future draft pick for essentially nothing. Nyquist was out for the rest of the season anyway, and he was not likely to re-sign with the retooling Jackets.
Fantasy impact
Nyquist has some value as a middle-six winger, but he is not going to be a fantasy factor until 2023-24. His destination for next season is unknown at this time.
