WILLIAMS OFF TO JACKETS

The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired forward Jason Williams from the Atlanta Thrashers for defenseman Clay Wilson and a sixth-round draft pick in 2009.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
The Blue Jackets will probably use Williams as a center, since the team had been seeking help down the middle since the season-ending shoulder injury to rookie Derick Brassard. Williams has been an inconsistent scorer throughout his career but he has the skill to produce with good players around him.

What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
The Thrashers will give newcomer Rich Peverley Williams' old roster spot and look towards the future. Williams was expected to produce better than he did while in Atlanta, so GM Don Waddell took the Columbus offer. Wilson is a marginal NHL prospect, so the sixth rounder may wind up being the key to the deal--well down the road.
