PORTILLO PICKED UP BY LOS ANGELES
The Los Angeles Kings acquired goaltender Erik Portillo from the Buffalo Sabres for a third-round draft pick in 2023.
What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings are still looking for goaltending help for the future (they just acquired Joonas Korpisalo from Columbus for the present). Portillo is a hulking physical specimen with good upside. He is currently finishing his junior year at the University of Michigan. The Kings may sign him at some point down the stretch.
What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres have solid depth in terms of goaltending prospects, led by NHL rookie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and top prospect Devon Levi. Therefore, they could afford to move Portillo at this time. They received solid value in return (third-rounder in '23), but expect Buffalo to make more moves before the deadline.
Fantasy impact
In terms of keeper value, Portillo is now in a better situation with LA. He is worthy of being picked up in very deep formats.
