GRANLUND GOES TO PITTSBURGH

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Mikael Granlund from the Nashville Predators for a second-round draft pick in 2023.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
In Granlund, the Penguins get a versatile playmaker to help with their scoring depth. He is signed through 2024-25, so this move is not a rental. That said, Pittsburgh is not getting younger with a trade for the 31-year-old Granlund. Furthermore, they are also getting smaller and softer here. Was Granlund what Pittsburgh needed at this time?

What does it give the Nashville Predators
For Nashville, this move seems like a no-brainer. Granlund has a cap hit of $5 million and was underachieving this season, so shipping him out for a second-rounder in this year's draft looks like a steal for the Predators. Nashville is still in the playoff race but is looking ahead before this year's trade deadline. They may not be done dealing, either.

Fantasy impact
Where the Penguins decide to play Granlund will determine his fantasy impact, but moving to Pittsburgh should give him a boost regardless of his role on the team. He could center the third line, which is not great for his fantasy prospects. However, he could also end up on the wing next to Evgeni Malkin, which would be great for his fantasy career moving forward. Stay tuned!
