JON GILLIES GOES TO COLUMBUS
The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired goaltender Jon Gillies from the Arizona Coyotes for winger Jakub Voracek and a sixth-round draft pick in 2023.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
Gillies will add goaltending depth to the Blue Jackets, who recently traded away Joonas Korpisalo to LA and are unlikely to keep veteran Jonathan Quick (who was part of the same deal). For now, Gillies may remain in the AHL.
What does it give the Arizona Coyotes
This trade is an indication that Voracek's NHL career may be over (due to a concussion). Why else would Arizona acquire his $8.25 million salary cap hit for the 2023-24 campaign? The Coyotes also get a late draft pick in this trade.
