FLAMES GET MODIN

The Calgary Flames acquired winger Fredrik Modin from the Atlanta Thrashers for a seventh-round pick in the 2011 draft.

What does it give the Calgary Flames
Calgary's impressive recent surge has them looking like a team on the rise down the stretch, and Modin should provide good goal-scoring insurance. He doesn't figure to be a key part of the Flames' top lines anytime soon, but could bring very valuable depth in the playoffs if called upon. Regardless, he's another solid veteran leader for a surging squad, and comes with an affordable price-tag.

What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
The Thrashers continue to add future assets while cutting payroll here, and Modin was an obvious player to move (as he's a pending UFA and an aging vet). The promising collection of young forwards the Thrashers are stockpiling (including a handful picked up in other deadline moves) will more than help replace Modin in both the short-and long-term outlooks.
