PETRY PACKS HIS BAGS AGAIN
The Detroit Red Wings acquired defenseman Jeff Petry from the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2025.
What does it give the Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings were probably Petry's favorite destination all along, but it took two trades to get him back home to Michigan. The veteran blueliner can still be a quality player, and he should be happy and motivated in Detroit. Look for him to play an important role in 2023-24.
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens never made any formal announcement about re-acquiring Petry when the latter was moved from Pittsburgh to Montreal in the Erik Karlsson trade recently. So, it was always going to end with another trade. Lindstrom is a stay-at-home defender with decent ability. He adds depth.
Fantasy impact
Petry's fantasy value should be better in Detroit than it could have been in Montreal, and far better than had he remained in Pittsburgh. He is a nice bounce-back candidate. Lindstrom does not have much offensive upside.
