WILL BUTCHER FOR MAXIM CAJKOVIC
The Minnesota Wild acquired defenseman Will Butcher from the Pittsburgh Penguins for winger Maxim Cajkovic.
What does it give the Minnesota Wild
Butcher will supply the Wild with organizational depth on defense. A once-promising offensive defenseman, Butcher has not appeared in an NHL game since the 2021-22 season. He could potentially earn a call-up with strong play in the AHL or if injuries continue to mount on defense for the Wild.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
In Cajkovic, Pittsburgh adds a younger forward to their depth in the minors. The 23-year-old Slovak was a third-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2019. He recently earned a promotion to the AHL but has more to prove before possibly getting a shot with the Penguins.
Fantasy impact
This trade has no fantasy impact. Neither player is likely to see a lot of NHL ice time this season.
