OKPOSO OFF TO SOUTH FLORIDA
The Florida Panthers acquired winger Kyle Okposo from the Buffalo Sabres for defenseman Calle Sjalin and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2024.
What does it give the Florida Panthers
The Panthers are arguably the best team in the NHL and were the Stanley Cup Final runners-up last spring. Okposo will be a depth piece for Florida, but he might be an important player for them if they go on a long postseason run. The Panthers are so deep now that Evan Rodrigues may have just lost his job.
What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres decided to trade away their captain here, but such is life when a team disappoints as badly as Buffalo has this season. Sjalin is a depth defenseman option for Buffalo in the near future, but this deal was more about giving Okposo a chance to compete for the Stanley Cup.
Fantasy impact
At this stage of his career, Okposo is mostly a role player. His ice time should decrease as a member of the Panthers, so there is no need to pick him up.
