PYATT TO VANCOUVER

The Vancouver Canucks acquired left wing Taylor Pyatt from the Buffalo Sabres for a fourth-round draft pick in 2007.

What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
Desperate for wingers, the Canucks hope Pyatt can fill part of the void left when they dealt Todd Bertuzzi to Florida. Pyatt has underachieved in the big league, but could feel rejuvenated in the Western Conference. He's a good, calculated gamble for GM Dave Nonis.

What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres are overflowing with NHL-caliber forwards, so they need to start trimming the herd. Pyatt had been surpassed on the depth chart the last two seasons, and no longer figured in the team's plans as a top-six forward. Therefore, all the Sabres could do was deal him for a mid-round draft pick.
