CAMPBELL NOW A SHARK

The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Brian Campbell and a seventh-round draft pick in 2008 from the Buffalo Sabres for right winger Steve Bernier and a first-round draft pick in 2008.

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
The Sharks get a very good all-around defenseman who should instantly become their top minute man. Campbell will be the power play quarterback in San Jose, and should be a great fit on a Joe Thornton-led club. He's a potential UFA, so the Sharks need to re-sign him before July 1. He could make a major impact in the Western Conference.

What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
Bernier is a very intriguing winger with power forward potential. Despite the fact the Sabres have plenty of wingers, he should fit in nicely with their four-line approach. Bernier's addition could lead to another move involving Maxim Afinogenov.
