MONTADOR TO CHICAGO

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired defenseman Steve Montador from the Buffalo Sabres for a conditional seventh-round draft pick.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks will attempt to re-sign Montador before the UFA market opens. He is a good fit, since he's right-handed and has some physicality to his game--both needs along the Chicago blueline. They didn't give up much to land him, either.

What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres have added Robyn Regehr and are trying to sign Christian Ehrhoff, so they clearly didn't have any need to re-sign Montador. Therefore, they will gladly take a late-round pick here and move on. The pick will either be a 2012 or 2013 seventh rounder.
